First year of independent practice
Student-program rules change October 1, 2026.
Most people in this window use the Student Savings Program. A shorter Medical Student Offer tail can still apply if you finished training within 90 days, and no later than September 30. The part that compounds is the discount on Future Income Option units — later increases follow the rate issued on the base policy.

25% becomes 10%. Five months waived in the first six months of practice. Months 7–12 of the first year still keep student limits and savings; the discount does not end at six months. Age moves from 18 to 26. Student BOE and the IMG offer fall to 10%; CI leaves the program.

Review Medical Student Offer eligibility before submitting a fully underwritten application. The September 2026 bulletin does not list the 10% personal disability discount as changing. 12 months waived falls to 5. Age moves from 18 to 26. BOE/BLP falls from 15% to 10%; CI leaves the offer.
See the Medical Student OfferBoth programs move to new guidelines for applications received on or after October 1, 2026. An application to the Student Savings Program that is declined, or rated or modified and not taken, removes Medical Student Offer eligibility.
